From coastal collections to a new cultivar

A measured selection became Ecuador’s Gota de Miel.

INIAP-Gota de Miel — Manabí and Guayas, Ecuador

Documented history

INIAP collected mango material in Manabí and Guayas, then evaluated it at its Litoral Sur station. The selection that became Gota de Miel was cloned by grafting and tested for four consecutive years near Portoviejo and Virgen de Fátima.

The 2022 release account singles out line INIAP-FRU-PF-MO1 for its fruit quality and high soluble-solids readings. “Gota de Miel” translates as “drop of honey”; that translation describes the name, while the release document supplies the breeding story.
