Local seedlings support the grafted orchard

Peru’s Criollo mango also has a life beneath the graft.

Criollo — Peru, including Chulucanas, Piura

A name on the map

INIA’s propagation leaflet describes Criollo de Chulucanas as a common source of seedling rootstocks in Peru. These roots support grafted varieties whose fruit bears another name. Criollo is retained here as a local category; the source does not establish one founding tree for every mango carrying that label.

The names it answers to

Criollo
Broad local label in INIA’s Peruvian propagation guidance.
Criollo de Chulucanas
Local form named in INIA’s propagation guidance; not asserted to cover every Criollo mango.
