A new generation from familiar parents

Ambika’s story begins with Indian breeders choosing which qualities the next mango should inherit.

Ambika — ICAR–CISH, Lucknow, Uttar Pradesh

Documented history

Ambika was developed at the Central Institute for Subtropical Horticulture from Amrapali and Janardhan Pasand. Its family tree brings older mango names into a deliberately created new variety: a reminder that mango heritage includes the patient work of breeders as well as old orchards.

The institute’s description emphasises a compact tree and yellow fruit carrying a red blush, with firm flesh and little fibre. Those choices have practical meaning for the people who tend, carry and sell the crop. We have a documented parentage here, although the source does not explain the choice of the name Ambika.

The names it answers to

Ambika / CISH-Ambika
The released hybrid name; CISH identifies the breeding institute.
Amrapali × Janardhan Pasand
Documented parentage, not a separate local cultivar name.
