How to enjoy it
Sugarloaf can suggest pineapple and coconut alongside concentrated sweetness. Let the greenish fruit soften properly before you decide which flavours you find in it.
Cut ripe cheeks and scoop with a spoon. Taste the flesh plain before adding it to a dessert.
When it is ripe
Let the greenish fruit soften fully and trust its loud perfume.
Flavour notes are subjective. Ripeness, handling and growing conditions change the fruit.

E-4 found a sweeter name
Documented history: consult the claims and qualifications in the cited sources.
Sugarloaf began as E-4 in Gary Zill’s breeding programme, a seedling of Edward. For years, collectors knew the orchard number. Tropical Acres records that in 2018 Zill gave it the name Sugarloaf, referring to Sugar Loaf pineapple.
The name is a tasting association, not an ingredient or a cross between mango and pineapple. Its possible pollen parents remain uncertain. E-4 and Sugarloaf preserve two stages of one fruit’s history: the breeder’s trial tree and the memorable name that helped it travel.
