The Konkan’s new branch of the family
Documented history: consult the claims and qualifications in the cited sources.
Ratna was developed from Neelum × Alphonso and released in 1981 by Konkan Krishi Vidyapeeth. Its history belongs to the long work of improving fruit for the people who grow and eat it.
It then entered another cross with Alphonso to produce Sindhu. Reading these names together reveals a family story across generations, with each new selection carrying something of an older favourite.
