How to enjoy it
Fajri, also recorded as Fajri Kalan, brings generous pulp and a milder aroma. A Multan study found it the largest fruit among the eight cultivars examined. Harvest timing varies: exporters list July–August, while Punjab’s research institute records a later August–October window.
Open the broad cheeks over a plate and share thick slices. Keep the soft trimmings for a glass of fresh pulp.
When it is ripe
Check for fragrance and yielding shoulders; a large fruit can need more time than its colour suggests.
Flavour notes are subjective. Ripeness, handling and growing conditions change the fruit.

Room for a larger mango
Documented name: the history of the first tree remains unresolved.
Pakistan’s official cluster report records Fajri Kalan among the country’s main mango varieties. A study of eight cultivars around Multan found Fajri the largest fruit in that sample. These sources establish the cultivar’s place in Pakistani orchards; they do not verify a founder or a naming event.
Harvest references differ between exporters and the Punjab research calendar. The season shown in the profile allows for that variation. We preserve Fajri Kalan as a recorded name and keep it separate from the Fazli entry in the Bengal research collection.
