## An old name on a travelling fruit

Documented name: the history of the first tree remains unresolved.

Popenoe’s 1920 manual recorded a mango called Rajpuri, with Rajapuri among its spellings, introduced to the United States from Bangalore in 1901. NHB also records Rajapuri in Gujarat and Maharashtra.

Even the early writer was unsure which place the name referred to. We therefore keep the historical trail without choosing a town or royal founder that the evidence cannot establish.
