Pink Elephant is striking for its size. Large fruit can still need time after the skin develops colour. Check the shoulders, then cut into manageable slices.

Cut the cheeks away from the flat stone, then slice or cube. Use the ripeness notes below to choose the right stage.

## A Mekong favourite gets an English stage name

Documented name: the history of the first tree remains unresolved.

In April 2024, importer Melissa’s announced Pink Elephant to the American produce trade after presenting it at the Viva Fresh show. Its account says the fruit was found by its sourcing team in Vietnam’s Mekong Delta, where it was already a local favourite.

That is a documented export chapter, not proof that the mango originated in 2024. “Pink Elephant” describes the striking colour and large size in English. The importer’s account does not establish the original Vietnamese cultivar name, breeder or first tree, so we keep the trade name separate from claims of an ancient pedigree.
