## How to enjoy it

Angie’s rich sweetness can bring peach and apricot to mind. Those are tasting associations, not added flavours. Try a plain ripe slice and see what you notice.

Cut ripe cheeks and scoop with a spoon. Taste the flesh plain before adding it to a dessert.

## When it is ripe

Let the fruit color fully and soften just enough to release its stone-fruit perfume.

Flavour notes are subjective. Ripeness, handling and growing conditions change the fruit.

## A mango for Angie Whitman

Documented history: consult the claims and qualifications in the cited sources.

Angie was selected from the former property of Frank Smathers in Miami. The mango was named in honour of Angie Whitman, wife of fruit explorer and collector Bill Whitman. Its name remembers a person in the community that gathered, grew and shared unusual fruit.

Fairchild’s mango festivals helped bring the selection to more gardeners. Growers consider Edward and Carrie its likely parents, but that pedigree should be read as a likelihood. The dedication to Angie is the firmer, human part of the record.
