## How to enjoy it

Ambika is an Indian hybrid with firm flesh and a sweet-acid balance. Its red colouring is attractive, but a gentle give and fragrance are better eating cues than colour alone.

Cut the cheeks away from the flat stone, then slice or cube. Use the ripeness notes below to choose the right stage.

## When it is ripe

Wait for the red skin to deepen and the shoulders to give slightly.

Flavour notes are subjective. Ripeness, handling and growing conditions change the fruit.

## A new generation from familiar parents

Documented history: consult the claims and qualifications in the cited sources.

Ambika was developed at the Central Institute for Subtropical Horticulture from Amrapali and Janardhan Pasand. Its family tree brings older mango names into a deliberately created new variety: a reminder that mango heritage includes the patient work of breeders as well as old orchards.

The institute’s description emphasises a compact tree and yellow fruit carrying a red blush, with firm flesh and little fibre. Those choices have practical meaning for the people who tend, carry and sell the crop. We have a documented parentage here, although the source does not explain the choice of the name Ambika.
